Picture of the Week

Remember that snow day we had? Well, a couple of days later, and before the foot of snow could even think about melting, we had another one! Between the two white out days we had about 20 inches of snow here on the Gentlewoman of the Road homestead.  That's a lot of snow.

And with all that snow comes both a little love and hate. First the love; man, all that snow sure is pretty.  It just evens out the landscape into this beautiful white, wait for it . . . ..wonderland. And now that the sun has finally graced us with its presence again, the natural light striking the pure white snow makes the outside glow with bright winter ambiance.  And after the snow stops, there is this calmness and quietness that is almost otherworldly.

And then on the flip side of the coin is a little bit of the hate. And maybe hate is a strong word, maybe unproductive is more accurate. With all this snow comes pretty strong hibernation feelings. And for once in my life I don't have to get out in the snow to go to school or work.  And I am taking  full advantage of all those extra hours curled up in bed, and Back to the Future marathons and days . . .and days of wearing yoga pants and favorite concert t-shirts that are so worn and soft they are like butter. But you really shouldn't wear butter.

But unlike bears (grrr! Wait. Bears go grrrr! Right? I'm starting to question my knowledge of animal sounds) that really are allowed to hibernate, humans kinda have to get on with their lives.  So here's to a new week (and month! February you did have some highlights, but  you are still a little bit of an F word) of wearing real pants, ordering cultures to finally make that cheese I've been talking about for a billion years,  new professional opportunities, mailing off mixed cds, 5k training and starting the search for the best strawberry milkshake in the area. That milkshake thing is seriously on my calendar, in pen, for Saturday. Everyone needs a mission in life.

  1. Hooray for mix CDs and homemade cheese and 5Ks and strawberry milkshakes and jobs and well, if we're going to cheer everything I guess I'd better say hooray to pants too. (Have you read the Dr. Seuss story about the pale green pants? It was a feature of story time last week.) Hooray for March!
